UBC Executive Board Elections

New members are elected to the UBC Executive board during the last UBC General Assembly of the spring semester. We encourage all interested business students to run for a position. Below is more information regarding the election process and requirements.
Candidate Application
Executive Board Candidate Application Deadline: April 23 at 5:00pm

Executive Board positions available through the election process:

President - Preside over UBC meetings and maintain relations with organizational presidents, faculty, administration, and those outside the School of Business 

Vice President - Maintain internal relations within the UBC, including committees and member involvement

Director of Outreach - Serve as the liaison between the UBC and its constituents, including member organizations, general members, and all other interested students
 

Director of Funding - Manage all aspects of fund distribution to clubs in the form of general allocation, special event, and travel expense requests 
 
Director of Marketing - Maintain social media pages and lead the promotion of all UBC events and activities 

Director of Events - Lead in the creation, planning, and execution of all UBC events

Candidate Requirements
  • Must be a current student in the KU School of Business.
  • Must be in good standing with the KU School of Business.
  • Must meet with the current executive officer about the position they are seeking prior to signing up.
  • Must be available to serve a full-year term.
  • Must be available on Mondays at 7PM. ​
  • Must be able to meet all requirements and duties for the position, as outlined in the UBC Constitution.

Election Process
Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates may also run for one Directorial position. All other candidates may only run for one position.

Applicants must sign up to run via the Candidate Application above.
  • Signups will open immediately after the third General Assembly of the spring semester
  • Signups will close one week prior to the last General Assembly of the spring semester
  • After the signup closes, the list of candidates will be made public

UBC Executive Board officers, General Members, and the elected representative from each UBC Member Organization are the only people allowed to vote.
  • Each member will sign in upon arrival to the election meeting
  • A member may not vote unless present for all discussion on the matter
  • Absentee voting is prohibited

Election proceedings for each position are as follows:
  1. Individual speeches
  2. Questioning
  3. Voting (unless the position is uncontested)
  4. Announcement

Elections will be held in the following order:
  1. President
  2. Vice President
  3. Contested Director positions in alphabetical order
  4. Uncontested Director positions in alphabetical order

Individual speeches
  • Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates have 5 minutes to give an election speech
  • Directorial candidates have three minutes to give an election speech
  • While one candidate is speaking, the other candidates must leave the room
  • Individual speech order will be randomly decided prior to the election meeting
  • After each speech, the candidate will be asked a question by the outgoing officer. This question will be the same for all candidates for the position.

After all candidates for a position have spoken, they will leave the room, and voting will commence.
  • Votes will be counted by the faculty advisor
  • In a contested election, a candidate must receive more than fifty percent of the votes to win. If no candidate reaches this requirement, a run-off election will be held between the two candidates receiving the most votes.
  • The outgoing President's vote serves as the tie-breaker

The President will announce the results immediately following the tally of votes.

Newly-elected officers will assume their positions the following Monday.
